Wedding in Tropea, Piero and MaryAnn

Piero and MaryAnn got married in Tropea, Calabria. He is a Navy officer in his white dress uniform, she is originally from Tropea. A wedding with a story already written into the place where it was celebrated: the Norman cathedral of Tropea, the Santa Maria dell’Isola Castle on the promontory, the sea below changing colour with the clouds. The kind of day you wait for as a photographer.

The ceremony in Tropea Cathedral

The religious ceremony took place in Tropea Cathedral, with the nave full of family and friends and strong light coming in through the side windows. Piero was in his naval uniform, with a medal on his chest and his cap in hand. MaryAnn arrived in a fitted gown with a gaze that left no doubt about how she was living that moment. After the ceremony we moved through the narrow streets of the historic centre and then to the belvedere overlooking the castle for the couple shoot. The light in Tropea at that time of year is something difficult to explain in words.

The reception at Tenuta Klopè in Pizzo

The reception was held at Tenuta Klopè in Pizzo, with views over the Tyrrhenian Sea and open spaces that allowed for a long and free-spirited celebration. Tenuta Klopè is one of the most beautiful locations on the Calabrian coast for a summer wedding, and Piero and MaryAnn’s evening demonstrated its full potential. I stopped photographing late into the night, with the dance floor still full.
